Save: the "museum on two wheels" for the fight against waste is starting

Twenty-two stops from north to south and over 10.000 students involved to educate in the conscious use of resources, starting with money, and to fight against waste. This is the objective of SAVE Sustainability, Action, Travel, Experience, an itinerant project aimed at primary and secondary schools, created by the Savings Museum, the BEI Institute and Scania, with the collaboration of Intesa Sanpaolo. The tour takes place aboard a latest generation Scania vehicle, equipped like a miniature savings museum. Leaving today from Piazza Castello in Milan, it will stop in Pesaro from 29 to 31 October, in conjunction with the celebration of World Savings Day. The SAVE Discovery Truck is a truck with a semi-trailer, set up as a real interactive laboratory, thanks to the experience of the Turin Savings Museum. Everything on board is designed to convey the knowledge underlying financial literacy and the circular economy with a playful approach, with the aim of encouraging the acquisition of virtuous behavior by the citizens of tomorrow.

The tour will cross Italy from north to south, stopping in 8 regions, with particular attention to the areas affected by the 2016 earthquake. The initiative will involve over 10.000 primary and secondary school students, who will get on board to address the issue of scarcity of resources, starting with money, and to reflect on the importance of engaging in the fight against waste. Three thematic itineraries are proposed, in addition to the workshops dedicated to sustainability and the circular economy curated by the Savings Museum and the result of sharing with the EIB Institute and Scania. The truck will make weekly stops, stopping for three days in each city of the tour (list on the last page). The final event will be in Rome, in April 2019. “We want to involve students on the topics of savings and sustainability – explains Gian Maria Gros-Pietro, Chairman of Intesa Sanpaolo. Saving is an act of freedom, because it allows you to carry out your own projects, promoting economic development. In the same way, the actions that characterize a circular economy system, i.e. the conscious use of resources and their reuse in the production cycle, favor growth and its sustainability in the future”.

Underlines Franco Fenoglio, President of Italscania: “We are very proud to be among the promoters of this project dedicated to the new generations, who will soon be called to adopt behaviors and make decisive decisions for the future of our planet. We are aware of the fact that the transport sector has great responsibilities in guiding change towards a more sustainable future, and for this reason we are constantly committed to promoting concrete education and awareness projects on sustainability issues". “I am very pleased that the EIB with the EIB Institute is one of the players in the project to build the first museum on wheels – explains Dario Scannapieco, Vice President of the European Investment Bank – We devote increasing attention to the issues of sustainability and the of the investments we finance, and we support numerous initiatives to disseminate the culture of impact investing and disseminate knowledge in financial matters. Even so, we contribute to producing a positive impact on the lives of European citizens”.
