An incomparable sea, long and white stretches of very fine sand. All embraced by a wild and at times untouched nature, but not only. There Sardinia it is also much more: on the island there are countless places to visit. A true paradise on earth made up of regenerating baths, good food and ancient traditions. But at what price? It is a fact that Sardinia is an ideal holiday destination, that it is generally expensive too, but this year it has become too exclusive and expensive. And to prove it collapse in the prices of ferries and planes to and from Sardinia: it went from over 300 euros at the end of June to 40 euros in August. And there are no reasons that can justify these increases, because the cost of fuel is no longer at the crisis levels of months ago. Shipowners and companies are now turning around, offering last minute trips at half the price initially foreseen, a real cold shower for those who have already bought the ticket for weeks.
Thus, the distance between the island and the so-called "continent" seems to have lengthened: thanks to inflation and the high cost of living, so the Italians focus on other shores, perhaps reachable by land, such as Puglia.
Plane tickets too expensive: "Mister prices" intervenes
Not only Sardinia, also there Sicilia – despite the fires of the past few days tourism scores important figures – it has seen a surge in prices. A situation that has drawn the attention of the Guarantor for price surveillance which a month ago called the main airlines (Ita Airways, Ryanair, Malta Air, Aeroitalia, Easyjet, Neos and Wizz Air), asking for precise explanations on the cost trend, in particular on certain routes that have seen an anomalous change.
The Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, during the rapid alert commission for price surveillance held on 20 July, reiterated the urgency of a trend reversal with respect to the prices of domestic flights, in particular for the routes to and from the Islands under the regime of territorial continuity. And he had also announced that his department was working on a regulatory intervention, in concert with the Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini, to counter any unfair commercial practices by carriers.
Sardinia, the prices of the ferries collapse
In detail, ferry tickets have dropped for all major companies. For example, starting from Civitavecchia with destination Olbia, a couple of two people with a medium-sized car, buying tickets in early June for a scheduled departure in the second and third week (August 13-August 20) of August would have spent around 700 euros to make a round trip and return without cabin. Buying the ticket these days, however, the expense would be around 500 euros. A net saving of over 200 euros.
Plane tickets are also down
Airline tickets have also taken a big hit. And just take a quick look at the most famous flight search engines to realize it: if the month of August was colored red (the days when flights are more expensive), today it is completely green (which highlights the cheapest days). . For example: an adult. The period is always the one straddling Ferragosto and the tickets are round trip. Starting from Rome, today less than 200 euros would be spent in Olbia. At the end of June, only the return journey started from 70 euros at 6 in the morning and rose above 300 euros during the day.
Thus, to try to "save" the season there was a big cut in prices. Not only of transport but also many accommodation e restaurants they had to recalculate after the overly optimistic autumn prospects. But will it be enough to attract some last-minute tourists? Perhaps yes, but it is now certain that 2023 will not be a record season for Sardinia.
Given the now crazy prices of the ferries, Sardinia doesn't exist for me, I don't go stealing during the year.
It is not possible that a return ferry for three people with a vehicle will cost 700 euros. But where are the controls?
