After cars, yachts are also going green. At least those of Sanlorenzo, the Italian company listed on the Stock Exchange which specializes in luxury yachting and intends to make its contribution to the environment and in particular to the protection of the marine ecosystem: this is why the company which designs and builds custom-made private boats since 1958 it has just closed an exclusive agreement with Siemens Energy for development of Fuel Cell technology in the yachting sector 24-80 meters and to buy new generation diesel electric and hybrid propulsion systems. In the first case, the innovative solution will be fueled by methanol and will allow the boat to generate electricity with the engines and generators off, with a significant reduction in the ecological impact: the first prototype will be installed on a 50-metre hybrid Sanlorenzo superyacht with an advanced design , which is expected to be delivered in 2024.

As for the two contracts for green engines, the electric diesel will be applied to 50-70 meter yachts, while the hybrid one will be used on boats shorter than 50 meters and the debut is very close: the first signed order concerns the application on the new SD90S model which will see the light as early as 2022. The news was communicated during the Cannes Yachting Festival, in which Sanlorenzo is participating and which precedes by a few days the most important Italian event in the sector, the Genoa Boat Show.

“It is a great satisfaction for us – he commented Massimo Perotti, President and Chief Executive Officer di Sanlorenzo – having sanctioned these agreements with Siemens Energy, a leading company on a global level in the field of energy technologies; by combining our respective experiences and resources we will be able to better respond to the challenges in the field of sustainability, being the first to develop a new generation of technologies that will mark an important change of direction in the yachting sector". “Together with our partner Sanlorenzo – added Ermanno Delogu, Country Business Unit Head of Siemens Energy -, we support our customers on their journey towards a more sustainable future.
