San Raffaele, the prosecutor filed the bankruptcy request in the Court

The Milan prosecutor's office has asked for the bankruptcy of San Raffaele, the hospital founded by Don Luigi Verzè. And to date there seems to be no other solution. The assets have been zeroed for some time and the debts currently stand at 1,5 billion euros, three times the company's total turnover. These are the data that led prosecutors Laura Pedio and Luigi Orso to proceed in this way.

Yesterday evening, a statement from the chief prosecutor of Milan, Edmondo Bruti Liberati clarified the situation: "This initiative is primarily aimed at stopping further patrimonial dissipation, but is also oriented towards pursuing the public interest in the sphere of which the position of the subjects involved in various capacities in this serious default, such as creditors, employees, collaborators and users of the health service managed by the Foundation ".

The second Deloitte report sheds light on the accounts of the well-known institute. After a first sweetened dossier in which even a profit of 30 million euros appeared, in the second one suddenly appears a negative of over 200 million and debts of 1,5 billion. The prosecutor's decision therefore arrived by comparing these data from the auditors with those he had obtained during the search of the home of Mario Cal (former administrator of the San Raffaele, who committed suicide last July).

The bankruptcy hearing has been set for 12 October, there are just a few days left but they should be enough for the new Board of Directors, strongly desired by the Vatican which has paid 250 million euros to turn around the hospital's fortunes, in view of the presentation of an arrangement with creditors.
