The Milan prosecutor's office could present a bankruptcy petition for the San Raffaele hospital, which has debts of around 900 million euros to banks and suppliers. The hypothesis, which became more concrete after the opening of the file on Mario Cal's suicide, is being examined by the Milan deputy prosecutors Luigi Orsi and Laura Pedio. Under the bankruptcy law, if the insolvency emerges in the course of a criminal proceeding, the public prosecutor is entitled to file a bankruptcy petition.
The prosecutor could request bankruptcy if the composition with creditors, already expected in recent days, is not presented in the next few days. For the moment, there does not seem to be any alternative to the agreement to save the hospital group, given that the alternative hypothesis of financing by the Vatican seems distant.
