Samsung invests in Vietnam: third plant in 5 years

Vietnamese authorities have granted construction permits for a new $1 billion factory to Korean giant Samsung. The province north of Bac Ninh will host the production of displays for smartphones and tablets, for an amount of 42 million units, which will employ 8000 workers and guarantee an income of 1,5 billion by 2015.

Samsung invests in Vietnam: third plant in 5 years

A new Samsung factory joins the other two factories of the group in the Vietnamese peninsula, one active since last year in the province of Thai Nguyen, the other in the same area of Bac Ninh already operational since 2009, both used for the production of smartphones . The investments allocated for the creation of this production triangle amount to 6 billion dollars, or the annual profit prospectus of the new Bac Ninh plant by 2020.

Compared to similar numbers, the goliardic investment of some time ago with which Samsung paid the plagiarism penalty to Apple appears very little: thirty trucks full of 5 cent coins - for a total of one billion dollars - sent to Cupertino " You can buy us snacks, or build us computers” explained the CEO of Samsung Electronics Boo-Keun Yoon to his Apple counterpart Tim Cook.

Epic troll aside, the Korean super company aims to minimize production costs, relocating a large part of the smrtphone packaging to Vietnam where labor costs are still lower than in China and South Korea where the other Samsung plants are located. Not surprisingly, rumors speak of a probable further investment in the next year by Samsung Electronics in Ho Chi Minh City's Saigon Hi-Tech Park.

The over 31 billion dollars that go to inflate last year's export item in the Vietnamese budget seem to justify such an intensive industrial activity just outside the chaos of the scooters in Hanoi.
