Operating profits almost doubled in the first quarter for the Asian giant: the increase is 97% compared to the same period last year.

Samsung estimated to have practically doubled operating earnings over the first quarter, at 5.800 trillion won, or 3,92 billion euros, 97% more than in the same period a year ago.

Il Total revenue grew 22%, to 45.000 billion won, 30,42 billion euros. Anticipating the official results, however, the Korean electronics giant did not provide data on net profits.

In any case, the operating profit indicated is higher than the 5.200 trillion won on average expected by analysts, according to whom strong smartphone sales have driven the group's performance.

In this crucial segment Samsung, with its megaphones equipped with Android, Google's operating system, is in competition with the American Apple and with its iPhone, while the Finnish giant Nokia is betting on the new devices equipped with Microsoft's Windows Phone.
