Salvini: "Loyalty to the Government but re-discussing European parameters and reducing taxes"

"The League's loyalty to the contract and to the government is unquestionable: I don't have a different word the day before and the day after the vote". The leader of the League reiterated this, Matteo Salviniat the press conference onoutcome of the European elections, overwhelmingly won by the Carroccio with 34,3% of the votes. “The sum of the two parties in government exceeds 50% – he added – I think it is unique on a continental level after a year in government in a moment of economic difficulty like this. I'm not interested in asking for a rebalancing of power at an internal level".

And again: “I think the Italians have given me and the government the mandate to re-discuss the parameters that have led to the highest levels of precariousness, unemployment and Asia in history. We need to review the old and outdated parameters that have hurt Europe. Otherwise a vote like this would not be explained ”.

While awaiting a letter that Brussels should send to the Italian government this week, Salvini underlines that, "if they tell us to do our homework by cutting spending, we will not accept it", because now is the time to focus "on work" and “work passes through a fiscal revolution. We want to base the autumn economic package on tax cuts. Yesterday's popular mandate is an invitation to do the opposite of what was imposed on us until last year with the Renzi, Letta and Gentiloni governments, but for the good of Italy and Europe. The country grows if workers and entrepreneurs can pay less than they do today. We want to give the money back to the Italians, starting with businesses. The priority for Italians is the right to pay less taxes".

Salvini then remarked that “in all 20 Italian regions there is at least one municipality where the League exceeds 40% of the votes. This compared to five years ago is a striking and exciting fact. The two municipalities chosen by the left as anti-Salvini symbols, Riace and Lampedusa, see the League as the first party". And on immigration, the leader of the Carroccio says he wants to carry on "the Riace and Lampedusa model: enter whoever has permission to enter" in Europe.

As for the relations with Brussels, Salvini assured that he "doesn't want to challenge anyone" and said he was certain that "the new parliament and the new European Commission will be more friends with Italy than they have been with the ultra-European governments of the Democratic Party. European political geography has arrived. I realize that the group that the League will try to set up will have between 100 and 150 parliamentarians. And he will make government proposals. The Eurosceptics did not win: the real Eurosceptics are the others, starting with the socialists. We try to save Europe by bringing it back to its origins and to its original dream”. t 5;\lsdprior
