Save banks, Vegas (Consob): "We need coordination between authorities"

The Government has entrusted Raffaele Cantone's Anac with the arbitrations on the Bank-saving case, but coordination between the various Authorities is needed to avoid overlaps. This is supported by the president of Consob, Giuseppe Vegas, in line with the position expressed by the governor of Bank of Italy, Ignazio Visco, and implicitly suggested yesterday by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

"We are ready to collaborate with the Anac - Vegas said in an interview with Il Messaggero - but it will not be easy to remove the overlaps that will inevitably be created if the new law does not fit perfectly with the laws in force".

“For example, if during the investigation into the sale of subordinated bonds Consob should come to the conclusion that the conduct examined should be sanctioned, it is not certain that the Cantone arbitrators will reach the same conclusion, essentially delegated to restore damaged investors. What will happen at that point? "And if instead the behavior is not sanctionable according to Consob - Vegas asks -, but sanctionable according to the Arbitration Chamber of the Anac?".

Therefore, mutual and extended consultation would be necessary for Vegas, to be implemented in a very short time: "Moreover, with the Bank of Italy in recent times we have greatly expanded the exchange of information, a heritage that will now become more precious", concluded the number one from the Commission.
