Salva-banks, Renzi: "Canton will manage the arbitrations"

The premier on Tg5: “In the next few hours we will do everything possible so that whoever has been cheated, but who has really been cheated, can get their money back and we will organize arbitrations. For my part, there is the intention to achieve maximum transparency and clarity, there will be maximum rigor”.

Salva-banks, Renzi: "Canton will manage the arbitrations"

The anti-corruption authority, chaired by Raffaele Cantone, will manage the arbitrations for savers who have lost all their investments in the secondary bonds of the four banks recently bailed out by the government. Matteo Renzi announced it surprisingly on Tg5.

"If possible - said Renzi - I would like the arbitrations to be managed not by Consob, not by the Bank of Italy, not by Parliament, not by the Government but by Raffaele Cantone's Anac, a third and authoritative authority, for maximum transparency . In the next few hours we will do everything possible so that those who have been defrauded, but those who have really been defrauded, can get their money back and we will do some arbitration. For my part, there is the intention to achieve maximum transparency and clarity, there will be maximum rigor”.

Among the amendments approved by the Chamber to define the future 100 million Solidarity Fund in favor of the savers of the 4 banks in default, the one on arbitration "case by case" has set the first milestones and started the path to define the rules.

In particular, it is foreseen that, "by decree of the Prime Minister, on proposal of the Minister of Economy, having consulted the Ministry of Justice and following a resolution of the Council of Ministers, arbitrators may be appointed, chosen from among persons with proven impartiality, independence, professionalism and honourability, or the methods of appointment, as well as the functioning of the arbitration board may be regulated".
