Salini Impregilo, which in recent days has expressed its willingness to intervene in the rescue of Astaldi, announced on Friday morning that it had won a new 718,8 million euro contract to build an additional section of the Grand Paris Express. The project, perhaps the most important in Europe for sustainable mobility, involves the construction of a new subway capable of connecting the territories of Grand Paris with the capital and with each other, the huge metropolitan area that surrounds Paris in the region of Ile de France. It consists of 200 km of automatic lines – practically a doubling of the current underground – with 68 stations and a frequency of trains every 2-3 minutes. all this will take place through 4 new lines (15,16,17 and 18) and the expansion of the existing line 14 to facilitate connections as an alternative to the car, relieving traffic congestion.
At least 20% of the total value of the contract will be assigned to local subcontractors and, in addition to the training that will be provided to local workers and managers, particular attention is paid to the issue of inclusion of disadvantaged categories, for a minimum of 5% of the total of the hours worked for the lot.
“We are delighted to be able to participate in the construction of such a strategic project as the Grand Paris Express in a large European country,” said Massimo Ferrari, General Manager of Salini Impregilo. “This further confirms Salini Impregilo's strategy of focusing on portfolio derisking, operational efficiency, dynamic portfolio management and a solid financial structure”.
