Winter sales: from Rome to Milan, the dates city by city

The winter sales are upon us. Christmas presents archived, the wallet cries. But perhaps someone, more pre-existing, has wisely thought of leaving something aside in view of the discounts that are about to arrive. In fact, the time has come to think about the 2019 winter sales, a moment awaited by many: perhaps to add that missing winter item to your wardrobe or to buy that necessary appliance in the kitchen or, more generally, for your home.

The discounts will be 20-30% and then go up to 50-70% towards the end.

WINTER SALE: WHEN THE DISCOUNTS BEGIN

In almost all Regions, the start date of the sales has been set for Saturday 5 January. The average duration will be two months, even if each region has established its own timing. Any examples? Basilicata, Calabria and Valle d'Aosta have decided to anticipate the start of the discounts by three, one and two days respectively, while in Sicily they start the next day.

In all other territories, including Rome, the real capital, and Milan, the shopping capital, the "kick-off will instead be on 5 January.

WINTER SALE: WHEN THEY END

The luckiest will be the people from Campania, Friuli, Aosta and the Veneto where the sales will last almost three months, ending between the end of March and the beginning of April. The shorter duration will instead be in Trentino Alto Adige where the discounts will end on February 16th and even in Liguria on February 18th. In the other regions, on the other hand, you can take advantage of the sales until the last week of February or the first week of March.

WINTER SALES: TIPS TO AVOID SCAMS

The National Consumer Union has drawn up a list of advice for consumers in view of the sales.

The first and essential is to always keep the receipt because even the goods on sale can be changed (whatever the shopkeepers say). Pay attention to the products purchased: "sales must really be end of season: the goods put on sale must be the surplus of the season that is ending, not stock funds"

Another fundamental advice is to always compare prices between several establishments and of be wary of exaggerated discounts: those above 50 percent very often hide non-new goods or previously inflated prices. Buy, if possible, in trusted stores and check that the old price, the new price and the applied discount percentage are on the tag of each product.
