Saipem, Scaroni to trial for bribes Algeria

The Milan prosecutor's office has requested the indictment of the former CEO of Eni Paolo scaroni and for 7 other people for the story of the alleged maxi Algerian bribe of about 198 million dollars. The request for trial concerns both Eni and its subsidiary Saipem, accused on the basis of law 231 of 2001.

Only in mid-January, the Milan prosecutor's office had closed the investigation against Scaroni, and seven other managers of the oil group, who had reiterated his non-involvement, and against SaipemAccording to the prosecution's hypothesis, the 198 million dollars would have been paid by the ENI subsidiary to the then Energy Minister of Algeria, Chekib Khelil, and his entourage to obtain 7 large oil contracts worth "over 8 billion euros".

At the moment, the Saipem share, today up sharply due to the recovery of oil, does not feel the blow of the legal case: after 14 pm the oil company's share is still gaining more than 3%, going close to 9 euros per share at 8,895 EUR. Idem Eni, which still gains more than 2,5% in the afternoon a 15,49 euro.
