Sagan hits Ghent-Wevelgem: he's the favorite for Flanders

He failed Sanremo surprised by the extraordinary solo by Nibali, he didn't excel at the 3 Harelbecke won by the Dutch Niki Terpstra, but at the third spring classic Peter Sagan hit the center in Ghent-Wevelgem, with an almost sly sprint up to 300 meters and then to explode with all his power by inserting the right trajectory: for all the others - from Greg Van Avermaet to Philippe Gilbert - there was no escape, not even for our Elia Viviani, who finished second, who at the start of the season appeared with Kittel among the fittest sprinters and who won the first Bruges-La Panne on Belgian roads a week ago.

Sagan has entered his name for the second time in this Northern classic, a double achieved only by him wearing the rainbow jersey of world champion. A success that makes Sagan the main favorite of the next Ronde, the Tour of Flanders, the second classic-monument of the season after Sanremo, which the Slovakian champion already won two years ago, leaving Fabian Cancellara and Sep Vanmarcke in the lurch.

On the legendary walls of the Ronde Sagan he will have to contend not only with the usual specialists of Northern and cobbled races such as Van Avermaet and Gilbert – spectacular winner last year – but also with a big name who is tackling this fascinating race for the first time: Vincenzo Nibali who, after the feat in Sanremo, has skyrocketing morale and who has already set his sights on the Innsbruck world championship after having seen the course with the blue coach, Davide Cassani during the week.
