Sace in Kenya with SMEs for the dairy supply chain

Sace finances 11 SMEs for the construction of an integrated livestock plant in Kenya, including the dairy chain, which will be able to produce about 30 liters of milk, 1,2 tons of meat, 1 megawatt of energy from biomass and over 1,5 megawatts of energy generated by solar panels per day. The project has a value of 25 million euros and is the result of a study on the potential of the Italian dairy supply chain in the African market conducted as part of the Frontier Markets program of SACE, which plays the role of advisor in the project. SACE could also intervene to guarantee the loan for the execution of the order disbursed by Bper in favor of Moi University.

The agreement was signed on the occasion of Kenya's National Day at the Expo, in the presence of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Together with Rota Guido, an SME from Piacenza specialized in the design and construction of farms and biogas plants, which will lead the project, 10 other Italian SMEs will take part in the project: Casella Macchine Agricole from Emilia, Sivam from Lodi, Faresin Industries from Vicenza and Reda , Tdm Group from Brescia, Ipi from Umbria, Mancini from the Marches, Zanotti from Mantua, Gruppo Prandi from Rome and Cappello Alluminio from Sicily. Each company specializes in a segment or process for building the plant.

The order involves the supply of all the machinery and the performance of all the activities necessary for the functioning of the farm: from the supply of machinery for working the land, to irrigation and cultivation systems, from the delivery of farm animals to machinery for feed, from refrigeration and storage systems to machinery for packaging finished products, from the installation of solar panels to the supply of biomass energy production plants. The agreement also provides for the transfer of knowledge and a consultancy and training service to Moi University, the most advanced in the country for animal husbandry.
