The 89th edition of World Savings Day kicks off today at the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome. The title of this year's edition is "Savings, driving force behind production recovery". The Minister of Economy and Finance Fabrizio Saccomanni, the governor of the Bank of Italy Ignazio Visco, the president of ACRI Giuseppe Guzzetti, the president of ABI Antonio Patuelli will intervene as speakers.
Saccomanni had already intervened yesterday to recall that the recession is over and economic growth will be more vigorous in 2014, even if economic policy must remain prudent. "Those who are in favor of more incisive measures should indicate which expenses to reduce, or which higher revenues to rely on," said the economy minister, taking stock of the stability law in Parliament, while the Pdl and Pd continue to urge major changes.
Saccomanni confirmed in the Senate the willingness of the government to review the new taxes on housing, to reflect on the taxation of government bonds, set at 12,5% on interest, "too low" and to introduce new constraints on the use of cash, ( currently the limit is one thousand euros).
