Fabrizio Saccomanni has been confirmed as general manager of the Bank of Italy, for the second and last term of six years. The decision was taken by the Superior Council of the Bank of Italy on a proposal from Governor Ignazio Visco.
One of the reasons that most inspired Saccomanni's confirmation was Governor Visco's desire not to deprive himself of a personality of great experience and great national and international credibility. The fact that, as a result of the spending review decree, the duties of the general manager of via Nazionale will also include those of president of Irvap, the new institute for the supervision of insurance and pension savings, was not insignificant. The Superior Council thus considered Saccomanni's "dowries" and "contribution" in recent years to be "fundamental for the start-up and management of the new body".
The new mandate will officially begin on 2 October.
