Ryanair and the pilots: strikes and punishments in sight

Between Ryanair and its pilots is always tug of war. In view of the new staff strikes that could block flights in half of Europe, the Irish company yesterday sent a warning letter to pilots and flight attendants announcing punishments if they join the protest over the next few days.

The first test of the new stirrings will take place in Italy from 13 to 17 next Friday, but the trial by fire is waiting for the 20th December, when the strike of Ryanair pilots and flight attendants in Germany and Ireland could create great difficulties for flights in view of the Christmas holidays.

The pilots are asking for wage increases but also for normal union relations with the volcanic president of the company, Michael O'Leary, who yesterday, in response, sent a very harsh letter to his employees threatening to cancel the benefits won in recent weeks after the cancellation of hundreds of flights due to the shortage of pilots in command. The company warns that, if the strikes are not abated, it could cancel the concessions on the longest hours of rest and reduce wage increases by up to 20%.

But even the trade unions are not giving up and in the coming days it could once again be travelers who will pay the price, while the Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda has also intervened on the matter: “It is an unworthy act. It is not my area of responsibility but I believe that action must be taken. You can't stay on the market just to take advantage and not respect the rules".
