Thanks to an investment of 100 million euro, Ryanair opens a new base in Milan Malpensa, the fifteenth in Italy and the number 73 in the world. To celebrate the four new routes that will take off from Milan Malpensa, Ryanair has put on sale airline tickets for 9,99 euros for December and January to be booked by Thursday 3 September.
Ryanair's new routes from Milan Malpensa include 28 weekly flights, two a day to London Stansted, one a day to Comiso, four a week to Bucharest and three a week to Seville. According to estimates released by Ryanair, the new routes from Milan will carry 450 customers a year and will lead to the creation of 400 new jobs at Malpensa airport.
David O'Brien, Ryanair's Chief Commercial Officer added that this initiative will not have an impact on Orio al Serio airport, Ryanair's headquarters in Italy where "we will continue to grow".
The new base in Milan comes after a summer of positive results for the Irish carrier: in August reported traffic up 10% to 10,4 million customers with fill rate up 2 percentage points to 95%. Ryanair aims, by 2024, to reach the threshold of 160 million passengers and a fleet of 520 aircraft from the current 308 thanks above all to affordable fares: the average cost of the ticket is around 47 euros against 230 for Lufthansa and 148 for Alitalia .
