Ryanair beats Alitalia: Irish is Italy's leading airline

Italians prefer Ireland, at least when it comes to flying. Last year, a sensational overtaking took place in the ranking of our skies: Ryanair beat Alitalia in terms of number of passengers, becoming the main active airline in our country.

This was announced by Melisa Corrigan, sales & marketing manager of the Irish low cost company. From the statistics released today on passenger traffic to and from Italy in 2011 "it emerged that from January to December 2011 Ryanair transported to Italy 28,1 million passengers – reads a note from the company -, exceeding the number of passengers transported by Alitalia in the same period (25 million) and recording a growth of 20% compared to 2010 data”.

An outstanding result for the Irish and quite depressing for our national airline. Though perhaps it wasn't exactly a surprise. Looking at the price lists, for some time now one might think that overtaking was in the air.
