Ryanair: 12 thousand euro anti-holiday bonus to pilots

In all, at the moment, there are 702 flights canceled by Ryanair arriving and departing from Italian airports to Italian and foreign destinations from today until the end of October.

An extraordinary bonus of up to 12 thousand euros. This is what Rynair would have offered its pilots in exchange for the partial waiver of holidays. Objective: to deal with the cancellations of about 50 flights a week in the next month and a half, a mess that risks costing the company up to 25 million in refunds. The news was released by the Irish press, which cite an internal message to the drivers from management.

In the document, signed by Michael Hickey, chief operations officer, 12.000 gross euros are offered to the captains, and 6.000 for each first officer. According to Rte, however, the pilots would not receive the bonuses until October next year. Furthermore, the payment of the bonuses would be conditional on the pilots completing more than 800 hours of flight in the year ending at the end of October 2018 - writes the Irish Times - and accepting (if they have taken a month's holiday) to work during a or two five-day 'blocks' that the company has identified to cover the most critical period for cancellations.

In all, at the moment, there are 702 flights canceled by Ryanair arriving and departing from Italian airports to Italian and foreign destinations from today until the end of October. This was revealed by the list published on the website of the Irish low cost company. Affect all the routes and all the main airports in the country.

In Europe, Ryanair flight cancellations will affect about 400 passengers and the company estimates that refund requests will reach over 20 million euros, said CEO O'Leary in a conference call with analysts, specifying that there is no is a shortage of pilots and announcing that it will introduce a loyalty bonus for pilots to not let the crews escape. The company said it will publish all cancellations through October by the end of the day.

“The situation that has been created with the cancellation of Ryanair flights is very serious. Serious inconvenience has been caused to our citizens and we demand absolute respect for the rights of the passenger - stated Transport Minister Graziano Delrio at the Festa dell'Unità in Imola - I called ENAC so that there is maximum supervision, which means full refunds, rescheduling of flights, and also compensations, i.e. fines for these inconveniences that have been created. We will follow the evolution we cannot give anyone discounts for such great inconveniences”.
