Russia, Medvedev threatens: "In the event of new EU sanctions we will close the airspace"

The new EU sanctions seem not to scare Russia, which responds with threats, through the mouth of Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev. Today the 28 member countries of the European Union formally approve the new economic measures against Moscow, accused of having sent its troops to Ukraine, sanctions which will come into force starting tomorrow.

Medvedev answered in an interview with the Vedemosti newspaper: "Economic sanctions against Russia will have political consequences and this will be more dangerous than the restrictions imposed on supplies." According to the Russian prime minister, these new sanctions “may break the global security system. But I hope – he added – that our Western partners do not want this to happen and that there are no fools among those who make the decisions”.

Moscow, Medvedev threatens, could respond to the new sanctions in an "asymmetric" way, for example "by limiting the traffic of European airlines over the skies of Russia". In short, the new sanctions against Russia, according to Medvedev, "do not help restore peace in Ukraine at all".
