Rupert Murdoch appoints John Elkann, president of Fiat, to the board of directors of his new News Corporation, a company born today from the split of News Corporation into two companies, the 21stCentury Fox, and the new News Corporation (the finalization of the transaction is scheduled for next June 28).
Murdoch will be president and CEO of 21stCentury Fox and executive chairmain of the new News Corp. On the board alongside Elkan will be Josè Maria Aznar, Natalie Bancroft, Peter Barnes, Elaine Chao, Joel Klein, James Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, AnaPaula Pessoa, Masroor Siddiqui and Robert Thomson. In addition to Murdoch, 21st Century Fox will be joined by Delphine Arnault, James Breyer, Chase Carey, David DeVoe, Viet Dinh, Sir Roderick Eddington, James Murdoch, LachlanMurdoch, Jacques Nasser, Robert Silberman and Alvaro Uribe.” Today's announcement is an important step in creating two independent companies, one operating in the media and advertising business, the other in entertainment,” commented Murdoc. The board of News Corporation, in addition to approving the split into two companies, also approved the authorization of the repurchase of 500 million shares of the new NewsCorp.
