Rosso Morellino: appointment in Scansano with forty producers of the symbolic wine of the Tuscan Maremma

Forty-five years of constant growth: the Morellino di Scansano, denomination of controlled origin in 1978, and since 2006 denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin, it has recorded a growing international reputation in almost half a century. Today the Consortium for the protection of Morellino di Scansano, born in 1992 by the will of a small group of producers welcomes more than 200 members, over 90 of which with at least one own label of Morellino di Scansano on the market.

And the 9st May, after last year's online edition, makes an appointment with its admirers for Rosso Morellino the most representative event that returns to Scansanor, at the Castagnoli theater and in the adjacent former elementary schools.

The event organized by the Consorzio di Tutela is reserved for operators in the sector, specialized press and wine lovers to present the latest vintages of Morellino di Scansano and talk about the projects and future activities of the production district and its territory, which is a candidate to become one of the most interesting wine tourism destinations in Italy.

With over forty years of history behind it and a development process that has traced a path entirely oriented towards quality, today the Maremma red is no longer a pleasant discovery but has become a solid reality, supported by the undisputed aging potential of Sangiovese enriched by the scents with peculiar nuances that derive from the sea breezes that lap this strip of uncontaminated Tuscany.

The strategy of a wine tourism proposal that focuses on the identity, history and nature of the territory

An in-depth study will inaugurate the event "Morellino di Scansano: new scenarios to discover the uniqueness of the territory" scheduled at 10 at the Castagnoli Theater. In this circumstance, the representatives of the denomination will talk together with some guests, on the opportunities deriving from the further growth of notoriety of Morellino di Scansano. The institutional moment will be an opportunity to make known the actions that the Consortium intends to implement in the near future to develop a competitive wine tourism proposal, increasingly linked to the productive, historical and naturalistic identity of this territory.

In recent years, in fact, the Consortium, despite the limitations deriving from the Covid-19 emergency, has worked to strengthen a synergy between local operators with the aim of giving ever greater centrality to the whole area, putting the its distinctive values, and thus develop an integrated offer on a human scale to give added value to the experience in the area.

A strategy that has already seen the implementation of two important projects: Morellino Green, for increasingly sustainable mobility and the Visitmorellino portal, which helps the visitor to build a personalized itinerary among the many gastronomic, natural and landscape excellences.

"Finally we are back to holding our event in person - says Bernardo Guicciardini Calamai, president of the Consortium - which will allow us to present the results of a strategy which, with perseverance and dedication, has allowed us to obtain significant results, despite the limitations of the last two years. In this edition of Rosso Morellino we want to share the message that we look to the future with optimism. Our awareness, in addition to numbers that underline a strong interest in our wines, is that we are increasingly a reference denomination in Tuscany with a precise identity. The uniqueness and pristine beauty of the Maremma – concludes Guicciardini Calamai – are increasingly added values for the promotion of Morellino di Scansano and the territory from which it originates, as a popular wine tourism destination”.

The event is free and open to sector operators and enthusiasts. In order to participate, it is necessary to request accreditation on the consortium website www.consorziomorellino.it
