Technology and digital will be the two enginesi that will restart the economy after the deep crisis triggered by the coronavirus emergency. However, Italy is far behind and must try to transform difficulties into opportunities to grow and bridge the existing gap with other countries. This is the summary of what was stated by Salvatore Rossi, president of Telecom Italia and former general manager of Bankitalia, during the forum on the role of technology and digital organized by Rcs Academy.
Italy is going through "a recession never seen in peacetime, from which we must get out as soon as possible", especially as the country came "from a quarter of a century of almost stagnation, also due to an ancient problem, which is also due to a lack of technological adaptation".
In fact, in past years, according to Rossi, our country has not managed to advance like the others and to fully seize the opportunities offered by technology, as has been done by nations such as the United States, Germany, France and the United Kingdom. “Italy has done it much less and this also has to do with the lack of adaptation of technological infrastructures, digital in particular. If this is at the forefront, it gives a strong incentive to businesses. The recovery that will be necessary after the health emergency is also an opportunity to realize it and run for cover”, taking advantage of technological opportunities, Rossi said. In short, we need to transform the context of crisis caused by the coronavirus into an opportunity for development and technological advancement.
Rossi also referred to 5G, on which Telecom Italia has been working for some time: "5G means fifth generation of mobile connectivity, it is a true technological revolution, because it reduces the response time. It is the logical continuation of the previous four generations, but takes a quantum leap, because data is transported between machines. We enter a futuristic world where objects exchange data, for example cars and those affected by the Internet of Things,” she said.
A final comment was reserved for the plan presented to the Government by task force led by Vittorio Colao, a project that Rossi has defined as "very serious" even if "like all human things it is not perfect". However, one of the merits of the plan is that of addressing "decisively political issues that have been debated and are controversial, therefore it has attracted a lot of criticism".
In this context, in order to contribute to the recovery, Tim launches new initiatives within the "Operation Digital Risorgimento" project. Starting June 16, in collaboration with Cisco, Manpower, Accenture and NTT DATA, Tim kicks off a new cycle of online appointments with live training lessons created by experts with the aim of bringing citizens and businesses closer to using the Internet and its opportunities. There will be four training courses and they will focus on cybersecurity, new opportunities in the world of work, e-commerce tools, culture and digital tourism. Each Master Class will be developed in four one-hour lessons held from Tuesday to Friday, at 14.30 pm.
