Rosneft-Pirelli, Ft's comment: Russians more solid than Clessidra, but unclear plans

Good deal, but not too much. The comment of the Financial Times on the Rosneft-Pirelli operation is mixed: the prestigious financial newspaper in fact judges the Russian energy group a more solid partner than Clessidra for Pirelli and Tronchetti but its plans for the Italian company "are not so clear just as the post-Tronchetti scenarios are not”.

This is essentially the comment by FT in the 'Lex Column' dedicated to Rosneft's entry into the corporate chain upstream of Pirelli. "If the number one of Pirelli with this move has neutralized the sword of Damocles of the agreement with Clessidra, which could have made him lose control of the company in 2017 - is the reasoning of the financial newspaper - great caution is needed on the new alliance".

“The commercial agreements (between Pirelli and Rosneft, ed) look promising but Rosneft does not need to hold a stake in Pirelli for the collaboration to be successful. His long-term plans are not clear as are the prospects relating to the ownership and management structure if and when Tronchetti Provera, who is 66 years old, decides to leave”. If in recent years the turnover in Pirelli's shareholding has been taking place at the same speed as the Formula 1 tires – is the ironic metaphor used by the Financial Times – the visual effect created by the rapidly spinning tires is “very confusing”.

Meanwhile, after yesterday's drop, the Pirelli stock is still struggling in Piazza Affari this morning: by mid-morning it lost more than 1% in 11,65 euro.
