Rosatellum between trust and secret ballot

200 amendments will be discussed in the Chamber, which however are affected by the presence of the secret ballot, which could slow down if not definitively curb the approval process of the Rosatellum. The Democratic Party asks Gentiloni to ask for trust. Lega and Forza Italia want the law as soon as possible to go to the elections, total opposition of the M5S: trust would be a subversive act

The last challenge on the electoral law will be played in the next few hours. This afternoon, Tuesday 10 October, the so-called Rosatellum 2.0 will once again be discussed in the Chamber. Four months after the last vote, Rosatellum 2.0 – a revised and corrected Mattarellum – arrives in the Chamber for the examination of the amendments.

A small number of amendments have been presented for the discussion in the hall, compared to the scope of the law, around 200. What is worrying, however, is the presence of around 50 secret votes which could be requested by those who oppose it and which could, in fact, block definitively the approval of the law.

Precisely to avoid this scenario, the hypothesis of resorting to a vote of confidence is gaining ground within the majority. "After the majority meeting - said the Pd group leader in the Chamber Ettore Rosato, promoter of the law that in fact bears his name - I telephoned the premier Paolo Gentiloni reporting that the majority's assessment would be that trust is appropriate because the text is the fruit of a tiring balance between the majority and the opposition and submitting it to secret votes would endanger the whole of the text".

Even in this case, however, there would be controversy. The League, which supports the Rosatellum, will not vote for trust in any case, as will Forza Italia.

Total opposition of the 5 Star Movement: “If the government were to place its trust in the Rosatellum, it would be a subversive act against democracy, the freedom to vote and the sovereignty of citizens. All with the complicity of the Lega and Forza Italia who, on paper, are in opposition, but who are part of this great and shameful mess against the citizens”. Thus the group leader of the 5 Star Movement of the Chamber, Simone Valente.
