Rome, Rays and referendum: the weekend of judgment

Hot weekend for the Capital – The judge's sentence on the accusation of forgery against Mayor Raggi is awaited during the day: if she were convicted, she would have to resign, according to the rules of the Five Stars – Tomorrow the challenge of the Atac referendum – VIDEO.

Rome, Rays and referendum: the weekend of judgment

The sentence of the Rome judiciary on the mayor Virginia Raggi is expected by the hour, accused of forgery in the matter of the municipal appointment of Renato Marra to the Directorate of Tourism. Yesterday the prosecutor Ielo asked for the mayor to be sentenced to 10 months.

The political future of Raggi depends on the sentence. The political leader of the Five Stars, Luigi Di Maio, said that, if Raggi is convicted, she will have to resign and the elections will return. Raggi, which appears politically indefensible even to the Five Stars, has tried to defend itself by arguing that such a rule has never been applied by the grillini in similar situations. But the political significance of Di Maio's exit, in turn besieged by the basis for the concessions made to the League on many fronts, is very clear and Raggi is left to herself: either she is acquitted or she has to say to the mayor's seat. In truth, with very few regrets from the city, given the state of degradation in which the capital is reduced and that Raggi has not been able to relaunch in the slightest, losing all the opportunities it has had (from the Olympics onwards, not to mention the status of waste and transport).

But, in addition to today's, uAnother political judgment awaits Raggi on Sunday when will you vote on referendum promoted by the radicals for the liberalization (not to be confused with the privatisation) of Atac and the tendering of the city's public transport service. The referendum is consultative and will be valid only if at least 700 voters vote but it is evident that, beyond the merits, it sounds like a censure and a wake-up call to the intolerable shortcomings not only of Atac but of Giunta Raggi itself, which also on public transport it has not been able to keep its electoral promises, aggravating the inconveniences of users and citizens.
