Rome: smog, traffic blockade continues

Traffic blockade continues a Roma, within the so-called "green band". The driving ban for more polluting vehicles, which from Tuesday 13 December has been extended to all diesel vehicles, except Euro 6 ones, has also been extended to today, Thursday 15 December. The block was decided following the achievement of the ninth consecutive day of pollution beyond the permitted limits. The decision, although understandable in the presence of pollution above the limits, has however aroused strong disorientation due to the practically zero communication: the bans are extended day by day without adequate information to the citizens.

In detail, from 7.30 to 20.30 Euro 2 petrol-powered vehicles and Pre-Euro 1 and Euro 1 mopeds and motorcycles, with two, three and four wheels, equipped with 2 and 4-stroke engines will not be able to circulate within the green area . From 7.30 to 10.30 and from 16.30 to 20.30 vehicles fueled by Euro 3, Euro 4 and Euro 5 diesel will not be able to circulate. The ban on Euro 6 vehicles is however temporarily waived.

The traffic restrictions do not only concern the green belt, but also the traffic inside ofrailway loop. Access to and circulation within the ZTL "Railway ring" of the PGTU is permanently prohibited from Monday to Friday, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday and midweek public holidays, for all vehicles already excluded from the green band and for Euro 2 vehicles (petrol), but excluding residents within the ZTL Ring Railway, from 21 November 2016 to 31 March 2017.

La fine for those who use a car that cannot circulate on the day of the traffic block is established by article 13 bis of the Highway Code. The amount of the fine ranges from a minimum of 163 euros to a maximum of 658 euros. Recurrence is also sanctioned: those who have violated the blockade in the last two years and are rediscovered again risk having their license suspended from 15 to 30 days.
