Rome, Raggi in trouble: Marra arrested for corruption

A new hard blow hits the Municipality of Rome. Raffaele Mara, chief of staff of the Capitol and right-hand man of mayor Virginia Raggi, was arrested by the Carabinieri for corruption

The builder also ended up in handcuffs with him Sergio Scarpellini, who would have provided him with the money to buy the apartment where he lived, or rather a house belonging to the national assistance body for agents and sales representatives (Enasarco).

The investigation, writes the Corriere della Sera, "refers to the period in which Marra was, under Mayor Alemanno, director of the municipality's housing policy office and head of the heritage and housing department".

From the outset, Marra's appointment had been hit by violent controversies, which had seen Raggi oppose Beppe Grillo and the mini Roman directorate of the Movimento 5 Stelle. In short, the mayor had defended Marra against everything and everyone, going so far as to threaten: "If he leaves, I will leave too".

It opens like this a third emergency front for Raggi, which in recent days had had to face the resignation of the Councilor for the Environment Paola Muraro, investigated for environmental crimes, ea a blitz by the Guardia di Finanza in the Campidoglio to acquire all the documents relating to the appointments launched by Raggi in the first five months of his inauguration.
