Rome, Muraro investigated since April: M5S furious with Raggi

Paola Muraro has been under investigation since 21 April 2016, that is, since before becoming councilor for the municipality of Rome. You have been aware of it since last July 18th. This was revealed yesterday by Alessandro Bratti, president of the Ecomafie commission, before which Muraro herself and the mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi presented themselves.

The latter admitted that she had known that there was an open file in Muraro's name "probably on 19 July", but "it is a generic dispute - continued Raggi - and there is still no guarantee notice and above all we made this assessment in a meeting where the former chief of staff was also present who comforted us by telling us that it was all too general to know what we were talking about. As soon as we know something more precise, measures will be taken. The papers were requested from the prosecutor by the councilor and her lawyer.

The mayor then said that she had spoken about the investigations into Muraro “with some parliamentarians: Paola Taverna, Stefano Vignaroli, an MEP and a regional councilor. But not with Grillo, Ruocco or Di Maio”. And yet, when they asked her in the commission if she had informed the leaders of the Movement, Raggi replied: "Yes, of course". An opposite position to that filtered by the national and Roman directorate of the M5S: "We knew nothing".

The suspicion among the deputies and senators of the commission is that they are faced with a correct reconstruction running for the ire of the directorate, between the first part of the talks in streaming and the second with the cameras off.

To those who dispute that she has lied so far about Muraro's involvement, Raggi replied: “The questions you asked us were about the guarantee notice and there is no guarantee notice. If you had asked me about the investigation, I would have answered what I have answered here."

Meanwhile, the directorate tries to form a common front: they didn't know that Muraro had asked for certification of the registration in the register of suspects. “Now Virginia will have to clarify,” Grillo, Di Maio and Ruocco agree.
