Rome, record taxes are not enough: 13,6 billion hole in municipal coffers

The record-breaking local taxation to which the citizens of Rome were subjected has served no purpose. Despite the drain, the previous debt of the capital remains immobile at 13,6 billion euros, double the entire balance sheet of the Capitol.

A huge hole created before 2008 by taking out mortgages and loans in order to "invest" in the city. The figure was recorded in the report on the management of the debt of Roma Capitale which Silvia Scozzese, government commissioner for the repayment plan of the exposure accrued before 2008, delivered to the Minister of Economy Pier Carlo Padoan.

Those who hoped that local taxation, which has now reached record levels, could be reduced, will have to resign. The Capitol needs to raise cash, so the additional personal income tax will remain at a record 0,9 per thousand. In fact, few know that the quota is divided as follows: 0,5 goes to the Municipality, 0,4 generates the annual installment of 200 million paid to repay debts.

It should be emphasized that at the moment, the Government is "rescuing" the Capitol with an extraordinary annual contribution of 500 million, to which must be added the 110 million allocated to support the extra costs associated with the role of Capital.
