Rome, double Atac strike on January 17: risk of chaos

Two protests called on the same day could disrupt traffic Rome - Here's everything you need to know

Rome, double Atac strike on January 17: risk of chaos

The time has come for Rome and the Romans to face off the first Atac strike of 2019. Indeed, it seems more appropriate to speak in the plural, given that there will be two protests and at different times. The first will be four hours long and was called by the Usb union. The second will last 24 hours and was proclaimed by the bear union. Both agitations have the motivation "workers' health and safety"

ROME, ATAC STRIKE JANUARY 17: TIMETABLES

The strike called by Usb will last 4 hours: from 8.30 to 12.30. The Orsa strike, on the other hand, will begin at 00.01 on 17 January and end at 23.59 on the same day.

The usual guarantee bands are foreseen: from the beginning of the service of the daytime lines at 8.30 and from 17 to 20.

Atac announces that "in the night between Wednesday 16 January and Thursday 17 January as regards the night bus network (lines from N1 to N28 and line 913)".

The strike will affect the entire network covered by Atac. Therefore, subway, bus, tram, trolleybus, Rome-Lido, Termini-Centocelle and Rome-Civitacastellana-Viterbo regional railways will be at risk. The lines of Ferrovie dello Stato, Cotral buses and the Rome Tpl network will circulate regularly.

In the metrorailway stations that will remain, possibly open, the services of stairlifts, lifts and escalators (already in very precarious conditions) may be interrupted. The opening of the ticket offices will not be guaranteed.

The risk therefore is that of a real Black Thursday for Rome. The last 24-hour strike organized by Faisa Confail, Orsa and Usb recorded a participation of 34,6% for the surface operation and 35,5% for the subway and regional railways operation. On the other hand, 4% of workers who work on the surface and 26% of those who work on subways and regional railways joined the 17,3-hour strike on 20 July.
