Rome, ecological Sunday: who can circulate on January 2nd

Rome greets the new year with the first ecological sunday 2022. The first appointment is scheduled for Sunday 2 January, then continues with 30 January, 20 February and 13 March to limit air pollution and make citizens responsible for the correct use of private cars.

The initiative includes the traffic ban for all motor vehicles in the "green belt" Ztl area from 7.30 to 12.30 and from 16.30 to 20.30, also for vehicles provided with access and circulation permits in restricted traffic areas.

Furthermore, the limitation of the maximum temperatures during the period of daily operation allowed to the plants was also established heating (no later than 12 hours) and the intensification of checks, throughout the local area, to ascertain compliance with the regulations on the ban on the circulation of certain vehicles. The local police of Rome capital ensure compliance with the provision.

There are expected derogations to the traffic ban. Here are the main ones: electric and hybrid vehicles are exempt; vehicles powered by methane, LPG and BI-FUEL vehicles (petrol/LPG or methane), also transformed, running on LPG or methane; Euro 6 petrol cars; 2-wheel mopeds with Euro 4 and later 2-stroke engines, Euro 4 and later 3-stroke motorcycles; vehicles of the "car sharing" services; vehicles with a disabled person's badge.

In a note, the Municipality of Rome declared that to facilitate mobility in the city, "the local public transport and taxis will be strengthened during the days of total blockade".
