Rome, centre-right in chaos

With the support of Matteo Salvini, Giorgia Meloni is ready to run for mayor of Rome. Bertolaso: “Meloni must be a mother” – The reply “Women reconcile motherhood and work.

Rome, centre-right in chaos

The "plebiscite" obtained by Bertolaso at the Gazebarie held in Rome over the last weekend has not appeased internal disagreements within the centre-right. Indeed, it seems that it has further exacerbated the disagreements by causing a real break between Silvio Berlusconi, Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni.

If the former Cavaliere, with a strong 94,7% obtained by consulting the Romans through the gazebos located in the various squares of the capital, confirms Guido Bertolaso's candidacy for the Campidoglio, the leader of the Brothers of Italy decides to shuffle the cards and make a step forward, proposing himself as a candidate for mayor of Rome and immediately receiving the ok from Matteo Salvini, who has always been openly opposed to supporting the former number one in civil protection.

At this point therefore, unless an agreement is found, the center-right risks engaging in a fratricidal war with as many as four candidates competing for the same electorate.

In addition to Meloni and Bertolaso, it is also necessary to take into consideration the appeal that Francesco Storace and Alfio Marchini have on part of right-wing voters. If an agreement cannot be found, the result could therefore be that of splitting the votes, favoring the usual political opponents.

It should be emphasized that the first "barbs" among the opponents have already arrived. The words spoken by Guido Bertolaso last night on Fuori Onda on La7 are causing a fuss: «Meloni has to be a mother, I think it's the most beautiful thing that can happen to a woman. She has to manage this page of her life. I don't see why anyone should force her to campaign fiercely and, while she nurses her, to deal with potholes, dirt ». The Fdl number one did not hesitate to reply.

"I don't want to argue. I only politely and proudly tell Bertolaso that I hope to be an excellent mother, as are all those women who, amid a thousand difficulties and often in much more difficult conditions than mine, manage to reconcile professional commitments and motherhood. I say this mostly out of respect for them."
