Among the great directors in the history of cinema, François Truffaut was the only one to transpose his life and the passions that animated him onto the big screen, first of all his passion for cinema, explicitly told in the 400 rounds and Night effect. His unmistakable style arises from the continuous comparison with the classics of the past, reinvented according to a personal poetics founded on great loves: that for books in Farheneit 451, for the theater in The last metre and last but not least the one for women right in the film The man who Loved Women.
The Casa del Cinema pays homage to the great French director with the exhibition Francois Truffaut poet of the image – submitted byTeatroantico Association & Company – open to the public from 8 September to 11 October accompanied by a film review of his masterpieces from 8 to 27 September.
On show original still photos of his films, Italian, French, English, American brochures, posters, magazines and photo albums. The testimonies collected in the exhibition confirm the autobiographical root from which the stories of the French director are born, starting from fragments of existence that he undoubtedly draws from his own experience, from that of his friends, from newspapers and books.
At the center of his aesthetic research is the viewer, who must intrigue, amaze, approach and move, always keeping in mind the lesson of the filmmakers of the past, holders of a lost secret whose nostalgia tormented him. His success lies in having been able to reproduce this secret in his films, captivating viewers of all nationalities, ages and cultures all over the world.
