Guido Bertolaso withdraws from the race for the Capitol and Forza Italia converges on the candidacy of Alfio Marchini. This is the outcome of tonight's meeting in Palazzo Grazioli between the former head of the Civil Protection and Silvio Berlusconi.
“With Dr. Guido Bertolaso we have decided to support and make our candidacy of engineer Alfio Marchini – said the former Cavaliere – It is not a new choice. Marchini had been our first option, and it had been vetoed by a coalition ally”.
Berlusconi's party explains that the goal “is to win, to give the Romans a government of the city worthy of the capital of Italy. We have noted that to win we need a unified proposal of moderate and liberal forces, with a strong civic spirit: a response outside the logic of the party and the interests of the parties. For this reason, together with Dr. Guido Bertolaso we have decided to support and make our own the candidacy of engineer Alfio Marchini”.
The reaction of the other right-wing candidate lasts: "We are happy with the simplification of the political framework in Rome - said Giorgia Meloni - Now we expect further simplification with the direct and open convergence of Alfio Marchini and Forza Italia on the candidate of the Democratic Party and of Renzi, Roberto Giachetti”.
The Northern League leader Matteo Salvini is also controversial, who supports Meloni: “Renzi and Casini call and Berlusconi answers. But as far as the League is concerned, everything is now clearer and simpler: in Rome the only center-right candidate and against any mess is called Giorgia Meloni, supported by the League.
