Rome, Banca Generali: the Arlati exhibition

“Potenza del colore” is the title of Mario Arlati's exhibition which opened on 13 May in the Rome headquarters of Banca Generali: 21 works of different sizes that dialogue with the great masters of the past on the exaltation of color as a characterizing element of human spirit.

"Power of color" is the new exhibition by Mario Arlati which opened on 13 May in the Rome headquarters of Banca Generali. After the Milanese appointment two years ago, the journey into the chromatic universe of the Milanese artist continues with a review of 21 works of different sizes and materials that dialogue with the great masters of the past on the exaltation of color as a central element for defining the emotions that characterize the human soul.

Curated by Elisabetta Longari, professor of Contemporary Art History at the Brera Academy in Milan, and produced by Banca Generali in collaboration with “Contini Galleria D'Arte” and “Giorgio Baratti Gallerie”, the exhibition presents a research path that begins with the "walls", the "monochromes" (made as soon as Arlati arrives in Ibiza at the end of the 70s), to then move on to the "light", the "golds", the "trapos" born from the accidental fall of color on the rags revealing an unprecedented beauty. The mixture of these experiences then culminates in the "Power of color" where the artist also manages to change scale by sensing the expressiveness of the chromatic variations on the architectural surfaces as emerges in the suggestive works on the Moscow skyline that entered the Guinness Book of Records for their size .

In the exhibition, Arlati's paintings are therefore combined with historical works such as the famous "The challenge between Apollo and Marsyas" by Bronzino which will be exhibited for the first time in Rome. The classic-contemporary bond, underpinned by a logic of punctual and eloquent references, represents an innovative proposal of great importance; an experimental example of an art path centered on colour, aimed above all at the immediacy of perception.

The exhibition, which will end on 31 January 2017, also presents as a novelty the setting up in the bank headquarters, outside a museum institution responsible by definition for the memory of art, thus inserting itself in the innovative spirit of the exhibition with a reflection which wants to offer new insights into cultural production.

"We are happy to bring new ideas and artistic reflections with our "Potenza del Colore" exhibition to Rome, a city where the dialogue between classic and contemporary never ceases to amaze us with its charm and beauty - said Gian Maria Mossa, general manager of Banca Generali – Mario Arlati's chromatic imagination, which expands from the canvas to immense skyscrapers, marrying physicality and matter, evokes great energy and strength. The innovative charge of the exhibition expands beyond the confrontation on nature and the expression of color in art, also embracing the thought around the new boundaries of the client who finds new spaces and dimensions to put himself at the service of art".
