Angry Rome: Sampdoria liquidated 3-0

SERIE A CHAMPIONSHIP – Destro's brace and Pjanic's super-free-kick close the Sampdoria case at the Olimpico – The championship is headed towards Turin, this is what the standings and direct confrontation say, but it's not dead yet.

Angry Rome: Sampdoria liquidated 3-0

One thing is certain: Rudi Garcia wasn't joking when he spoke of angry wolves. Roma literally tore Sampdoria to pieces and the 3-0 final, already excellent in itself, is even tight for them. Post-Naples reaction had to be and there was a reaction, despite the fact that the opponent was anything but comfortable. It may not even mean anything, but Juventus and Napoli have struggled much more to beat Mihajlovic's team and this, in the week that will see the return of the European cups (in which Roma, it should be remembered, do not participate) can be read as a signal.

The championship is directed towards Turin, this is what the standings and direct confrontation say, but it is not dead yet. It cannot be when the opponent is called Roma, it can boast players of the highest level such as Gervinho, Pjanic, Strootman Maicon and Destro, to which must also be added the unavailable Totti, the unused (last night of course) De Rossi and many more. On the bench then there is a great coach like Garcia, good at immediately rebuilding the certainties of the group (it had already happened after the debacle in Turin) and managing men and game systems. Yesterday evening, the Frenchman, without Totti, opted for a change of formation from the standard 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1. Solution made possible by the many variations available, above all the ductility of the midfielders, and, paradoxically, precisely by the absence of the captain.

In fact, a striker like Destro gives less technical quality to the maneuver, but allows for a specific weight in the penalty area that otherwise isn't there. During the week in Rome, a city easily depressed after a defeat, there was talk of the lack of a great centre-forward: perhaps however, after the brace from the former Inter player, someone will bite their tongues. In fact, Destro unlocked a game that seemed haunted, because the Giallorossi just couldn't break through Da Costa's goal. But a minute before the break, the striker hit the winning punch, giving Roma the advantage at the ideal moment. Because in the second half, thanks to an inevitable change in Sampdorian attitude, those prairies opened up so suited to Pjanic's feet and Gervinho's riding.

To tell the truth, the doubling (54') came from a free kick that the Bosnian midfielder designed devilishly behind Da Costa, but the plot of the match was marked. In the 56th minute, in fact, Florenzi unmarked Gervinho with a high school heel, the black Gazelle joked a bit with the ball before serving Destro, who threw his right-footed shot on goal for 3-0 (with this they score 6 goals in 9 games played) . The postponement with closed curves still gave a great opportunity on the Gervinho-Pjanic axis and the expulsion of Gastaldello for an avoidable double yellow card, then Roma decided that this could also be enough. Sampdoria thus left the Olimpico with a lot of melancholy, a pinch of anger (at least to be reviewed by a touch with Benatia's arm in the area on the result of 1-0) and one certainty: these wolves are too angry to be stopped!
