Rome, 24 arrested for corruption. Marotta under investigation (Ap)

Antonio Marotta, MP from Area Popolare is being investigated for trafficking in illicit influences and receiving stolen goods in the context of an investigation by the Rome prosecutor's office which led to the arrest of 24 people - among the suspects also the former undersecretary of the MIUR Giuseppe Pizza.

Yet another bribery scandal in Rome. Deputy Antonio Marotta (Popular Area) is under investigation in an investigation by the Rome prosecutor's office which led to the arrest of 24 people by the Guardia di Finanza.

At the center of the investigation, an illicit financial flow of 12,8 million euros. According to the accusations, a structure linked to a businessman was active in the capital, with important "political connections" who used a studio located in the center of Rome for the purpose of "receiving money of illicit origin, concealing and sorting it, making use in one case of the collaboration of the parliamentarian".

The fixer referred to by the investigators is Raffaele Pizza, brother of Giuseppe, former undersecretary for public education in the Berlusconi government, currently national secretary of the new Christian Democrats. Giuseppe Pizza is among those under investigation by the Rome prosecutor's office, brother Raffaele has been arrested.

As for the Ncd MP Antonio Marotta, the latter is being investigated for trafficking in illicit influences and receiving stolen goods. For the politician, a precautionary measure had been requested for corruption and conspiracy to commit a crime, hypotheses of crime excluded by the investigating judge.
