Rome 2024, the Olympics can bring 4 billion in dowry

The Rome 2024 Olympics, an uphill challenge but with possible positive implications. According to a study carried out by the Ceis of the University of Tor Vergata and anticipated by Il Sole 24 Ore, the value of the economic impact of the Olympic Games will bring benefits estimated at almost 4 billion, 2,9 billion for families and consumption of around 1,7 billion euros for businesses.

The estimated economic impact consists, in fact, in the activation of additional resources compared to those envisaged by the programs for the 2017-2023 period: if we analyze the issue in depth, we discover that these could have a strong positive impact. To benefit from the Olympics could also be the production: in fact, the impact on activities is equal to 9 billion, of which only 5,7 billion in services, a crucial production sector for the economy of the entire region. The so-called "flywheel effect", more confidence and greater impetus for growth and development.

Thanks to the Games, if they should be assigned to Rome (the most dangerous challenger is Paris, everything will be decided in September 2017), the same Gross Domestic Product will grow - as mentioned on the day of the presentation of the dossier - which would see a + 2,4 % in the period 2017-2023, with an average annual increase of 0,4%. To this must be added the creation of new jobs, which again according to the University of Tor Vergata will be 177mila in six years of construction sites. Coming to the expense report, the major investments will necessarily have to be made on the construction of the plants.

Despite an estimated availability of 70% - that is the amount already available and usable for the Games - the costs are around 1,7 billion, to which should also be added those relating to the upgrading of the railway and road network. There is talk of a total of about 5 billion, very little compared to the most recent editions: almost 9 billion euros were spent in Athens, Beijing 2008 was a monster edition worth at least 40 billion and London, which was supposed to be a low-cost edition, ended up spending between 15 and 20 billion euros . A great investment, in short, that of Rome 2024 which could also benefit the population. All that remains is to wait for 13 September 2017, when the city that will host the Olympics will be chosen in Peru: Rome is dreaming and meanwhile planning its future.
