Free roaming until 2032: agreement in the EU

The institutions of the European Union have reached an agreement which provides for the extension of the regulation for another 10 years eliminate roaming costs. The deadline therefore slips from 30 June 2022 to 30 2032 June.

The new regulation will extend the existing system, approved in 2015 after years of negotiations, and will allow citizens to continue making calls, sending messages and surfing the internet in other European Union countries without additional costs compared to those foreseen by their own national tariffs. Consumers will also be entitled to the same connection quality and speed abroad as well as in your own country, wherever equivalent networks are available.

“The roaming at home policy has made communication easier and cheaper whenever people travel in Europe, so it is no surprise that it is one of the major success stories of the digital single market. I am very pleased that the Slovenian presidency has reached a political agreement with the European Parliament in good time to allow consumers and businesses to continue to benefit from this concrete advantage, which by the way supports one of our most important values, namely the free movement of people within the EU,” he said Botjan Koritnik, Slovenian Minister of Public Administration and current President of the European Council.

The agreement reached today will have to be approved by the Council and the European Parliament. "As regards the Council, the Slovenian presidency intends to submit the agreement to the Council's Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) on 15 December", reads the an article. The final approval of the agreement should arrive in the early months of 2022.
