Single check delay, INPS replies: the cause is an adjustment. Here's who will get the most money and who will have to pay it back

LThe single check of May 2023 is late: where have you been? This is the question many parents have been asking themselves in recent days. In fact, payments usually arrive in the middle of the month, but today there are many families who have not yet received the May amount and find themselves facing daily expenses with great difficulty.

"Timely payment is vital in many cases to make ends meet without having water in the throat”, said the president of the Forum of family associations, Adriano Bordignon, on May 25th. For many families, the single allowance is also a way to support the cost of living, from primary goods to those for early childhood”.

Finally after days of waiting they have arrived the clarifications of the INPSwhich deals with the provision of the benefit. The National Institute of Social Security has made it known that payments of the single check for May are in progress. At the root of the delays, which concern only a part of the beneficiaries, there would be a maxi recalculation of the amounts which – the institution reassures – in many cases will allow families to receive a few euros more.

Single Check Delay: the INPS response

Through the message n.1947 of 26 May, INPS communicated that i recounts have ended and that the payments of the Single Universal Allowance relating to the month of May, including amounts by way of final adjustment, are currently in progress.

In recent weeks, the institute has in fact carried out recalculations in order to incorporate the Isee variations, the changes that have occurred in the family unit, but also the new legislation that has modified the discipline of the Single Allowance. These the reasons for the delay in the provision of the benefit.

Unique check: 272 euros more for 512 thousand families

INPS also informs that the sums due as a single allowance have been integrated with amounts which, in most cases, show credit for families due, depending on the case, to the adjustment of the ISEE, to the recognition of the so-called bonus at birth (seventh and eighth month of pregnancy) and in the presence of people with disabilities, who are entitled to increased amounts starting from the month of March 2022. Translated into simple words: many families will receive more money.

Indeed, according to forecasts, 512 thousand families will receive an additional payment which will cost INPS a total of around 140 million euros. On average, the credit adjustment will involve approx 272 euros more per family.

Single check: for 378 families a cut of 41 euros

However, there are also families who will have to return some money: we are talking about 378 families who will face a reduction in the allowance equal to 41 euro, for a total of 15 million euros.

“Those who are in debt will have to repay the amounts paid but not due, but they will have to do so in installments, equal to no more than a fifth of the total debt”, explains Vincenzo Caridi, general manager of INPS.

Users will be informed of the variation of the Check with an SMS and an e-mail message and will be able to find out more about the calculation methods by contacting the Contact Center or the Institute offices.
