Rio+20: off to "smart lights" that would save us 87 billion euros a year

The Unep (UN company for the environment) has said that with a better organized and intelligent lighting system, 110 billion dollars (87 billion euros) of electricity bills could be saved.

The director of Unep, Achim Steiner, said that thanks to new devices, in addition to the creation of new jobs, savings, and reductions in mercury and sulfur pollution, more and more countries are installing them and the results are already evident .

This report, in collaboration with the International Energy Agency, has calculated the advantages of this new system: switching to the latest generation lamps and lighting systems allows for a 2% reduction in CO6. The European Union with a single investment that would pay for itself in 4 months, the savings would be 28 billion euros, while for the United States, the savings would be just 18 billion.
