Renewables: Terna awards tender worth 360 million

A 360 million euro tender for the construction of new electrical stations throughout the country, to be integrated with renewable energy production plants and which meet specific requirements of sustainability, environmental certification, use of recycled material and worker safety . It was awarded to 22 companies, all Italian (6 from the North, 10 from the Centre, 6 from the South), by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid. Specifically, the activities will concern the design and 'turnkey' construction of electrical stations to be installed over the next 5 years at the crucial points of the national transmission grid (both for new connections and to replace pre-existing plants) mainly in central-southern Italy.

The structures, in fact, will be functional to the integration of energy produced from renewable sources, in particular wind and photovoltaic farms, and will contribute to improving the efficiency, sustainability and resilience of the national electricity grid also with a view to decarbonising the Italian energy system and the so-called energy transition. Some examples of the type of works that will be realized are the electrical station of Capri, a unique innovative design model resulting from a design competition organized by Terna, and the Suvereto (Livorno) electrical station for which Terna strongly wanted an architectural contest to make the infrastructure aesthetically harmonious with the landscape.

The tender is part of the execution of the activities envisaged by Terna's 2021-2025 Business Plan and aims to enable an efficient and safe production restart of small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector, even in this period of the covid-19 emergency , to support the economic recovery of the entire industrial chain involved and therefore of the country. Terna currently manages over 74.000 km of high and very high voltage electricity grid, 888 stations and 736 transformers through 4 control centers in Italy.
