Renewables, Egp: 2 new wind farms in Italy

In the fourth Italian auction called by the Energy Services Manager, Enel Green Power “has been awarded 34,5 MW of new renewable capacity for two wind projects and 27,2 MW of power deriving from the refurbishment of hydroelectric plants already in service”. The company announced it in a note, specifying that the group was also awarded "0,83 MW of new renewable capacity for 5 solar projects on the roofs of Enel buildings".

as to new wind power capacity, the two new plants will be built in Sicily and Campania: construction works will begin respectively in 2021 and 2022, with entry into service in 2022.

I five photovoltaic plants instead they will be distributed between Sicily, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna and the works will be started and completed within this year.

Finally, as regards the upgrading and extension of the useful life of two already operational hydroelectric plants, the renovation sites will be carried out between 2021 and 2022 in Veneto, in the municipalities of Vigo di Cadore and Auronzo di Cadore, both in the province of Belluno.

"With this award, we advance in the implementation of our strategic plan for the growth of renewables in Italy, a central country for our activities - he comments Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power and director of the global power generation division – The investment plan in new renewable capacity will contribute to the decarbonisation objectives of the group and of the country, with the progressive replacement of traditional sources with those with zero emissions. Unfortunately, the trend of the previous auctions is confirmed, with project offers considerably lower than the tender volumes and the participation of a few operators. This is mainly due to the slowness of the authorization procedures, which is an obvious brake on the country's energy transition".

The creation of new capacity and the upgrading of existing plants in Italy are part of the Enel group's commitment "for the growth of renewables and the decarbonisation which in our country foresees the development of new renewable capacity in the period 2021-2023 - concludes the note for 1,5 GW and for which EGP has developed a pipeline of approximately 3,2 GW of projects both greenfield both of repowering which may come into operation in the same period".

Enel's 2021-2023 strategic plan provides for a global increase in additional capacity from renewable sources of 19,5 GW to reach a total of 68 GW of capacity.
