Un airplane flight canceled or departed terribly late is one of those bad lucks that can happen to any of us and perhaps ruin a long-awaited vacation. The consolation for those who fly is that often in these cases it is possible to obtain a reimbursement.
However, many consumers do not always know in which situations it is possible to ask for a refund, nor how to go about obtaining it. To help us is a statement from theCode association, which seeks to unearth a regulation that, too often, airlines try to keep nebulous.
According to article 6 of Regulation (EC) No. 261/04, a flight is considered "delayed" when, with respect to the scheduled departure time, it goes beyond:
. di 2 or more hours for all flights covering distances of less than or equal to 1500 kilometres
. di 3 or more hours for all intra-Community flights covering distances exceeding 1500 kilometres, and for all other flights covering distances between 1500 and 3500 kilometres.
. di 4 or more hours for flights that do not fall under any of the previous hypotheses.
In these cases, passengers are entitled to compensation equal to:
. 250 € for flights within 1500 kilometres
. 400 € for flights between 1500 km and 3500 km and for intra-community flights over 1500 km
. 600 € for flights that do not fall under the previous cases.
