Piombino regasification terminal: Snam assigns 86% of the total capacity of the FSRU terminal

Snam, the company that manages large gas transport and supply infrastructures, concluded the first capacity booking for regasification for the period of 20 years between the thermal years 2023/24 – 2043/44. At the end of the procedure they were assigned 37 slots/year out of a total of 43 slots/year subject to the offer, corresponding to more than86% of the offered capacity of the FSRU terminal Piombino Italy.

Capacity per slot of 171.920 liquid cubic meters of LNG

Every slot of landfill corresponds to a capacity of 171.920 liquid cubic meters of LNG (liquefied natural gas) equal to approximately 105 million cubic meters of gas. The terminal's residual capacity, equal to 6 slots/year, will be made available in a forthcoming allocation procedure for a multi-year period, the terms and conditions of participation of which will be announced by next Friday 24 March 2023.

The excellent result achieved will allow greater quantities of natural gas to be introduced into the national transport network, contributing substantially to the diversification of supplies and to the security of the national energy system.

The regasifier ship will be operational in May

The lot discussed regasification ship is arrived in the port of Piombino in the night between Sunday 19 and Monday 20 March. It is about first of the two vessels purchased about a year ago, on a mandate from the Draghi government, by the Snam group to guarantee the arrival of new methane flows useful for making the coming winters safe. According to what was also reiterated in recent days by the CEO of Snam Venier, the first gas should arrive at Half may. By the first half of April, the regasifier ship will be connected to the pipeline with the national gas network, while the arrival of the first load is expected between the end of April and mid-June.

La Golar Tundra it is approximately 292 meters long, approximately 43 meters wide and approximately 55 meters high (maximum height from keel to highest point). According to Snam data, the ship is equipped with four storage tanks liquefied natural gas (LNG), arranged in the central part of the hull, has the regasification plant forward, while the crew quarters, centralized control room and service machinery are located aft.

The company led by Venier has bought the ship Golar Tundra regasifier last June by Golar Lng Limited for 350 million dollars (about 330 million euros). The investment of the entire project is worth 100 million euros. Overall, Snam's outlay is approximately 450 million.
