Reforms: Pdl, Pd and Udc summit started. Verification of support for the Monti government

It started a few minutes late to allow the deputies to participate in the commemoration of the Italian soldier killed in Afghanistan, the summit between the leaders of the three parties that support the Monti government: Angelino Alfano (PDL), Pier Ferdinando Casini (UDC) and Luigi Bersani (PD). The 'wise men' of the reforms also participate in the meeting: for the PDL Gaetano Quagliariello and Ignazio La Russa, for the Pd Luciano Violante and for the Third Pole Italo Bocchino and Fernando Adornato.

Officially the meeting is to talk about constitutional reforms and the electoral law that should take the place of the current "Porcellum". But the three leaders will not be able to avoid the "node" of work. The stability of the government is at stake on the bill for the reform of the labor market, after the prime minister said he was ready to leave if the executive's initiatives do not receive adequate political support. Arriving at Deputies for the meeting, Bersani reaffirmed the Pd's line on the Fornero reform: «We must try to connect the Government's action to sensitivity with what happens in society. We want to change the law, that's all." To a question about the possibility of elections in October, Bersani replied: "I don't understand where this nonsense comes from: certainly not from us."

Casini called today's meeting, leader of a party that up to now has always unconditionally supported the Monti government. Yesterday, referring to the constitutional reforms, Casini had spoken of the "Cesarini area", pressing on the center-right to dissolve the reservations on the electoral law: "if we want to make them we must set them in Parliament before Easter, or the technical times will no longer exist". The Pd is also on the same line, with the aim of reaching an agreement with the other two parties at least on the new voting system, leaving the constitutional reforms to a later stage that will certainly take longer.
