La tax reform , competition law they will only arrive in the Council of Ministers in September. The confirmation arrived on Thursday from Palazzo Chigi.
This is a postponement: initially the government had assumed to enact the two measures by July, but then the postponement was necessary - explain sources of the Executive cited by the Ansa agency - for consistency with the roadmap of the reforms included in the recovery italian plan.
Translated, it means that the government prefers to postpone tax and competition reforms to concentrate on the two most urgent issues at the moment: the organization of the next school year and the justice reform.
The second dossier is the more politically sensitive, also because the majority has not yet managed to reach a definitive agreement. During the last meeting of the Council of Ministers, the maxi-amendment to be presented to the Chambers was discussed, but the proposed compromise – the result of a mediation process that has been going on for weeks – was not enough to convince the 5 Star Movement.
The latest version of the text provides a special lane with longer times for the crimes of mafia, terrorism, sexual violence and drug trafficking managed by the mafias. However, the list does not include "crimes committed in order to facilitate the activity of mafia associations" and for this reason it was judged unsatisfactory by the pentastellati. The Movement argues that - with the amendment arrived at the Council of Ministers - for various crimes linked to the Mafia, such as extortion and attempted murders, the trials would be too short and would risk not being concluded.
As for the other positions in the majority, Forza Italia was against extending the time limits for any crime, while the Lega and Pd accepted the selective extension, refusing only the hypothesis of canceling the limitation period as for crimes punishable by life imprisonment (solution instead welcome to M5S).
At this point the time to find the square is running out. The Justice Commission meets in the afternoon and must close the text as soon as possible in order to send it to the Chamber tomorrow for the general discussion, after which the confidence vote will be set for next week.
